Will Chesney tie record for Entertainer of the Year?
Kenny Chesney is going for a fifth.
If he wins Entertainer of the Year honors at the Academy of Country Music Awards this time around, he’ll have his fifth consecutive Entertainer trophy. He’ll tie with Alabama for the most wins in that category. This year’s award will be picked through an online vote.
The presentations will be broadcast live from Nashville. Reba McEntire will host.
Chesney is up for other honors as well. He’ll be vying for Top Male Vocalist and for Vocal Event of the Year (”Down the Road” with Mac McAnally), for which he can win as a producer and an artist.
Chesney, who was one of the biggest tour acts of any genre in 2008, is also scheduled to perform.
He’s not the most-nominated act. That goes to Brad Paisley, who has six nods. He’s up for Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year and Video of the Year.
Heidi Newfield, who made a splash with “Johnny & June” in 2008, is also a major nominee, competing in four categories: Top Female Vocalist, Single Record of the Year, Video of the Year and Song of the Year (for which she can win as a composer and singer).
Other major nominees include Carrie Underwood, George Strait, Jamey Johnson and Keith Urban.
