BASEBALL

Boardman 13-14, Hubbard 12-4

BOARDMAN — Matt Shelton’s three-run homer put the Eagles ahead 12-10 in the seventh inning. The Spartans (4-0) rallied for the win, with Eric Walters’ single driving home the tying and winning runs. Pat O’Brien’s two doubles drove in four runs. Kevin McCulloh also drove in four runs while Nick Dinello homered and tripled. For the Eagles, Todd Gasier’s three hits included a double. In the Spartans’ second win, Zach Struharik hit a three-run homer while O’Brien drove in three runs on two hits. Shane Parks, Sam Porter and Jerry Pasquale each had two hits.

SOFTBALL

Boardman 12, Struthers 1

STRUTHERS — Leadoff hitter Danielle Petrus homered, doubled and singled for Boardman, while Jamie Massaro and Brooke Meenachan added three hits. Shannon Morrow and Julie Sokol combined on a three-hitter.

Boardman 11, Notre Dame Cathedral Latin 1

STRUTHERS — Petrus added two more homers and a double and Meenachan went 4-for-4 to lead the Spartans (3-0), who compiled 26 hits in two games. Alex DiDomenico struck out 10 and walked five in pitching her second three-hitter of the season.

Ursuline 2, Western Reserve 1

BAZETTA — Casey Lower (1-1) tossed a two-hitter for the Irish (1-1), striking out nine and walking none at Candlelite Knolls. Pinch-runner Brianna Curd scored Ursuline’s first run after she stole two bases and came home on an error. Rebecca Hartz’s two-out walk led to the second run as she scored on Kasey Foley’s infield single with the bases loaded. For the Blue Devils (2-1), Elizabeth Srock (1-1) struck out nine and walked three. Sissy Stubbs doubled in the seventh inning and scored on Kailyn Mowery’s groundout.
