CORTLAND — “How to Grow, Identify and Show Your Daffodils” will be presented April 16 by Barb Enoch, a member of the American Daffodil Society. The two-hour program will be at the Ohio State University Agricultural Complex, 520 W. Main St. Sign-in begins at 9:30 a.m.; the program will run from 10 a.m. to noon. Register by calling (330) 638-6783. Cost is $15. The presenter is a lifelong resident of Trumbull County and teaches psychology in Lordstown schools. She is an avid gardener and has been showing her daffodils in national competitions for more than four years. In 2006, she won a blue ribbon in the historical division of the ADS competition. She has nearly 50 cultivars in her home landscape.
Public auction
BOARDMAN — Township trustees will have a public auction at 6 p.m. April 13 at the township administration building, 8299 Market St. The auction will consist of items from the township police department, fire department, road department and administration. Items include police cars, pickup trucks, assorted township vehicles and police-seized vehicles. In addition, a 1983 Sutphen firetruck and “Jaws of Life” are also included, plus 66 unclaimed bicycles and office equipment. There is a 10 percent buyer’s premium on all items. Driver’s license is needed to register. Payment in full required on auction day (except vehicles) by cash, major credit/debit card or check with Social Security number. Vehicles: $3,000 nonrefundable down payment auction day, balance by cash or certified funds by 3 p.m. April 16. Title given upon verification of good funds. Easter hike, breakfast
BOARDMAN — An Easter hike and breakfast is planned at 8:30 a.m. Saturday starting at Boardman Park’s Edgewood Pavilion. The free event will be hosted by Mill Creek Church, 143 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 141. The church is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. Prom for adults
GIRARD — The Girard Multi-Generational Center will have its third annual Senior Prom from 6 to 9 p.m. April 16 at the center, 443 Trumbull Ave. The theme for this year is “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” Adults 60 and older and their adult guests are invited to participate. Promenade pictures, a Chinese auction and music by DJ Cosmo Signoriello will be part of this enchanted evening. Tickets for the event are $20 per person or $35 a couple. Wick cleanup
YOUNGSTOWN — Wick neighborhood cleanup is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 18 in conjunction with Earth Day, April 22. Participants should meet at First Unitarian Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St. Bags and gloves will be provided by Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling. Participants are asked to bring rakes, shovels and shears. A potluck lunch will follow. Kielbasa, bratwurst and veggie burgers will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share. Volunteers needed
MINERAL RIDGE — Briarfield at the Ridge senior care center will have a volunteer orientation from 1 to 4 p.m. April 19 at the center, 3379 Main St. (state Route 46). Anyone interested in volunteering is invited. Refreshments will be served. Volunteer opportunities include visiting with residents one-on-one or in small groups, leading craft projects, games, bingo and directing Wii game competitions.
