Scouts prepare to clean up parks

YOUNGSTOWN — Area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are preparing for the 27th Annual Mill Creek Metropolitan Park Earth Day Cleanup on April 25.

It is being sponsored by the Whispering Pines District of the scout council and the Mill Creek Park Metropolitan Park District. The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and will be conducted rain or shine.

More than 20 Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs will participate in this year’s cleanup. Units are from Austintown, Boardman, Canfield, Girard, North Jackson, Poland, Struthers and Youngstown.

The scouts and other volunteers will remove litter and environmental debris accumulated from the winter at several locations in the park. Litter will either be disposed of or recycled. Equipment, such as gloves and trash bags, will be provided. Snacks will also be served.
