NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man who was trying to escape police officers fell seven stories while trying to use a bedsheet rope, police report.
Shane Marshall, 28, of New Castle, fell from the McGrath Manor apartment building on West Washington Street around 7 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Officers had gone to an apartment on the seventh floor to arrest Marshall on a probation violation, they said.
The report said that as officers were entering the apartment, Marshall tried to flee by tying bedsheets together and jumping out a window.
After one of the officers noticed the sheets leading out the window, they saw him lying on the ground, the report says.
The woman who lives in the apartment told police Marshall indicated he knew there was a warrant for his arrest and he intended to escape, the report says.
He was taken by ambulance to Jameson Health Center, then by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was listed in critical condition Friday night.
