Two-out base hit by Davis tops rival

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Andria Lyons hit a single, stole second and scored on Ashley Davis’ hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lead Springfield High over South Range, 3-2, in an Inter Tri-County League softball game on Wednesday.

Seniors Breanne Mincher and Morgan Fagnano and Davis and Lyons, both juniors, had two hits apiece for Springfield (1-1).

Mooney 14, Mathews 3

BOARDMAN — Meghan Williams’ two hits included a solo homer for the Cardinals (1-0). Kelcie Herberger tripled and singled while Macy Ucchino had two hits and two RBIS, and scored three runs. The Mustangs are 1-1.

Baseball

CHAMPION — Steve Wilaj, Tyler Serich and Joe Balog all had two hits for Struthers, which held off a Champion rally for a 7-6 win.

Balog and Serich had doubles for the Wildcats (1-1), who led 7-3 entering the bottom of the sixth. John Rhoads pitched six innings to pick up the win and Roman Salinas pitched the seventh for the save.

Alliance 7, Southeast 5

ALLIANCE — Nathan Boston had two hits and two RBIs to lead Southeast in a non-league game. Nick Hopkins added a double and two RBIs for the Pirates (1-1), while David White hit a two-bagger. Aubrey Hendershot homered to lead Alliance (2-0).

Springfield 12, South Range 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Travis Richey and reliever Eric Lipp combined to pitch a two-hitter while Richey had all five of the strikeouts in the abbreviated, five-inning game. Bryan Visingardi had two singles and four RBIs to lead Springfield (2-0, 2-0 ITCL Tier One). Joe Musial added a double, single and two RBIs and Matt Semach had a two-run single to also pace the Tigers. South Range fell to 0-2, 0-2.

Lisbon 9, Mineral Ridge 7

LISBON — Lisbon scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 7-7 tie in a game carried over from Tuesday.

Zak Bell went 3-for-4 with three singles for Lisbon, but junior Kyle Weinstock’s sacrifice RBI and senior Alec Beech’s sacrifice fly pushed across the decisive runs for the Blue Devils. Bell was the winning pitcher in relief.

Junior catcher Tom Padovani’s two-run homer in the second inning with Joe Mulichak on base was the big hit for Mineral Ridge, which had a 7-1 lead until giving up six runs in the fifth.

Lisbon trailed, 7-3 in the fifth when, with two outs, a dropped pop-up opened the door for four more runs by the Blue Devils.

The game, suspended by darkness, resumed in the top of the sixth on Wednesday.

Mineral Ridge left nine on base; Lisbon left eight on base.

Mineral Ridge 7, Lisbon 6

MINERAL RIDGE — Matt Hiscox had double, single and two RBIs. and Tom Robbins a two-run single to lead Mineral Ridge (1-1, 1-1 ITCL Tier One), which held off a Lisbon rally in the last inning Wednesday.

Kyle Borton and reliever Joe Mulichak combined to pitch a four-hitter with seven strikeouts, Borton getting six.

Alec Beech had two singles for Lisbon (1-1, 1-1).
