‘Equal Pay’ seminar planned in Salem
SALEM — The Columbiana Area Business & Professional Women’s Club, in conjunction with the Salem Community Center, announces an “Equal Pay Day” seminar will take place April 21 at the center.
The doors for this free event will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. and the seminar will begin at 7 p.m.
The seminar topic is the wage gap between men and women. Despite the fact that equal pay has been the law since 1963, 2007 statistics show that the wage gap is 22.2 percent. This means that a woman with the equal education, job position and length of employment will on average earn 77.9 cents for every dollar a man will earn.
The keynote speaker is Connie J. Young of Akron, who will address the reasons for and solutions to the wage gap.
This is a free event, but space is limited. Contact the community center at (330) 332-5885 to reserve a seat.
