Youngstown schools plan parent conference

YOUNGSTOWN — For the third year in a row the Youngstown City School District will sponsor a conference that teams parent presenters with various community experts or central office staff to deal with topics of interest to all parents.

The event will take place at the Metroplex Hotel and Conference Center, 1620 Motor Inn Drive (off Belmont Ave.) beginning with breakfast from 8 to 8:45 a.m. May 1 and ending with lunch at 1:15 p.m. with several informative sessions in between.

The topics deal with potential barriers in both academic and non-academic areas under the overall theme of “Formula for Academic Success.” That theme will be the subject for guest keynote speaker during the general session, Mr. Ako Kambon of Columbus. Mr. Kambon is nationally recognized as a creative educational consultant and is president of Visionary Leaders Institute. He will also do a special presentation to some students from the school district.

After breakfast and the guest speaker, parents can rotate to four successive 45 minute sessions of their choice from the following five topics: Nutrition and Healthy Living, Economics/Effects of Poverty on Education, Parents as Advocates, Secrets to Academic Success, and Technology.
