The foundation also awarded grants to these groups:

Center for Community Solutions of Cleveland: $40,000 toward building a long-term commitment to quality early childhood development in Ohio by providing research and communications.

Hope House Visitation Center of Youngstown: $11,400 to develop a strategic plan for itself. The center provides supervised visitation in Mahoning County for children and parents as a result of divorce, separation or family-violence issues.

Jumpstart: $100,000 over two years to the Cleveland-based group focused on regional economic development to support the development of minority entrepreneurs in the Mahoning Valley.

Junior Achievement of the Mahoning Valley: $12,800 for a current part-time manager to work directly with the Youngstown and Warren school districts to continue programs.

Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County office, Canfield: $14,000 in support of its Youngstown Garden Partners, a collaboration of individuals, community organizations and church youth groups in Youngstown. The program teaches children to turn vacant properties in the city into gardens that would otherwise be left to deteriorate.

Tru-Mah-Col: $85,000 to provide entry-level training and planning for future expansion of services. The group provides quality professional development opportunities to early-childhood providers.

Mahoning County Continuum of Care: $12,000 to the Youngstown-based collaboration of agencies focused on the coordination of its homeless assistance programs.

Voices for Ohio’s Children: $50,000 to the Cleveland-based statewide group committed to the welfare of children. The group works with stakeholders in the Mahoning Valley to help get local children signed up for government-sponsored health insurance.
