CANFIELD — Carlee Hart drove in three runs and Kasey McMurray scored four for Canfield (1-0) in its first game since winning the Division II state title last spring. Sarah Vrabel pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts to get the win.
Poland 4, Struthers 0
POLAND — Erin Gabriel tossed a no-hitter for the Bulldogs (1-0), striking out 14 and walking none. Jessica D’Apolito hit a two-run double while Karah Pierce, Jordan Palumbo and Jenna Modic each had two hits.
Lakeview 9, Beaver Local 0
LISBON — Abbey Bensing struck out nine in five shutout innings and also had two hits for Lakeview (1-0). Lexi Sidley homered, singled and drove in three, while Mackenzie Palette, Brittany Ayres and Alexis Neumeister each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Warren JFK 4, Girard 0
GIRARD — Morgan Piacquadio tossed a two-hitter for the Eagles (1-0), striking out nine and walking one. Jessica Slusarczyk had two singles and two RBIs and Rachael Ratcliffe two singles and one RBI. Keikei Harris added a triple. For the Indians, Megan McCale and Nikki Mazzella singled.
Mathews 7, Brookfield 1
BROOKFIELD — Sophomore Brittany Schnarrs had a 14-strikeout two-hitter and Jenna Whitfield had three hits. Schnarrs issued just two walks. Mathews teammates Audrey Dodgson and Jen Tillery added two hits apiece for Mathews (1-0). Brenner and VanMeter had a single apiece for Brookfield.
South Range 1, Springfield 0
NORTH LIMA — Gab Naples’ bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning produced the winning run for the Raiders (1-0, 1-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier One). Emily Seman singled and Kristin Robinson walked to open that inning. Winning pitcher Madison Yanek faced one batter more than the minimum. She struck out 10 and walked one in tossing a one-hitter. For the Tigers (0-1, 0-1), Rebecca Evan singled in the first inning.
Western Reserve 15, Southern 0
BERLIN CENTER — Western Reserve pitcher Elizabeth Srock tossed a perfect game in the Blue Devils’ opener, striking out nine. Srock, who tossed a no-hitter against Ursuline last year, also had two hits and two RBIs, while Heather Monosky and Sissy Stubbs each added two hits and Amanda Majirsky tripled and drove in three for Reserve (1-0, 1-0 ITCL2).
Sebring 8, Leetonia 3
LEETONIA — Taylor Ward went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Sebring (2-0, 2-0 ITCL2) and also got the mound win. Chantel Fox added two triples, a single, two runs and two RBIs.
