YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will address a predicted sell-out crowd of 500 people expected for the YMCA of Youngstown’s annual Good Friday breakfast and service scheduled from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. April 10 at the YMCA Central Branch, 17 N. Champion St.
Eight tickets (one full table) cost $70; a single ticket is $9. Reservations are due Friday. Checks must be mailed to the Y, or call (330) 743-4781.
Brittany Myhal, local singer and Youngstown State University student, will provide the musical entertainment. A military color guard will present the American flag.
The event has been a popular annual tradition for nearly 40 years. In hosting the pre-Easter gathering, the YMCA honors its commitment to Christian principles and its devotion to healthy spirits accompanying healthy minds and bodies.
“It’s important — as a community institution and spiritual resource — to make possible this time for fellowship and prayer as Christians all over the Valley prepare to celebrate the holiest of holidays,” said Ken Rudge, YMCA chief executive officer.
“But, while the Y is a Christian organization and Easter is a Christian holiday, we open our Good Friday event to everyone: Christian, Jewish or Muslim. Protestant or Catholic. Everyone has a seat at our table.”
The breakfast buffet will be provided by Jorgine’s Deli in the Y’s auditorium. Seating and service will follow in the second-floor community gym.
