Armed robbers strike three days in a row

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — Armed robberies were reported in the city for the third day in a row Monday, and a Warren police detective says two of them appear to be related.

At 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a driver for New Valley Taxi of Warren reported he was robbed at gunpoint by three people near Victoria Street and Penn Avenue Southwest. The robbers took about $50.

At about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a driver for Pizza Hut on Mahoning Avenue Northwest reported that she was robbed at gunpoint of five pizzas, two 2-liter bottles of soda and $15 in cash when she went to 1704 Union Street Southwest to deliver the food.

The thieves fled on foot, and the driver returned to the restaurant unharmed, the police said.

Detective Jeff Hoolihan of the Warren Police Department said he is investigating all three robberies, and the first two have some similarities.

At about 9:30 p.m. Monday, a woman said she was robbed at gunpoint in the driveway of her home on Fifth Street Southwest by three males wearing hoodies.

One of the three pulled out a small handgun as she was getting out of her car to go inside her house, the woman said. She emptied her pockets but didn’t have anything, she told police.

One of the males then went through her car but didn’t find anything there to steal either, she said. They left on foot in the direction of the Highland Homes apartment complex, she said.
