Howland pulls away in 2nd half


Springfield showed off its balance in a 5-1 win over East Liverpool.

HOWLAND — After a scoreless first half, Howland scored four times in the second half and blanked Salem, 4-0, in a girls high school soccer game Monday.

Senior Jessica Wilson, who scored twice, got the first goal on a direct corner kick, while freshman Olivia Nicholas also added two goals. Gina Wall, Erika Nites and Abey Nicholas all had assists for the Tigers (10-0-2).

Howland goalie Casey Haering had six saves, while Allison Thompson had six for Salem (7-2-3).

Springfield 5, East Liverpool 1

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield (10-2) got scores from five different girls.

Breeanne Mincher and Alexis Zubick each had a goal and an assist, while Allyson Berry, Amber Uscianowski and Ashlyn Italiano all added one goal. Tiffany Johnson also had an assist, while keeper Heather Cozak had eight saves.

Jaymee McDougle scored for East Liverpool (4-5-2) and keeper Sal Doley had 10 saves.

Harding 1, Bristol 0

BRISTOLVILLE — Mariah Brown scored a first-half goal and Harding hung on.

The Raiders (4-5-2) took 21 shots. Harding goalkeeper Avrielle Merton had nine saves.

Bristol (2-8-2) got nine saves in the first half from goalkeeper Brianna Sloan and 11 saves in the second half from Heidi Ullrich. JVs: Harding 1, Newton Falls 1.

Mooney 4, Fitch 3

STRUTHERS — Katie Griswold scored two goals for the Cardinals (7-4). Ashley Cuba and Maggie Vinopal each had a goal. Cassie Trgovich had an assist. Chistian Goleno, Jen Shiley and Tori Koch scored a goal apiece for the Falcons (8-4-1). Koch and Shiley each had an assist. Mooney had 24 shots on goal and Fitch had 11. Goalkeeper Ali Tolich had 14 saves for the Falcons. Rachael Letscher had three for Mooney. JVs: Mooney 1-0.

Newton Falls 6, LaBrae 0

NEWTON FALLS — Angela Guiliano scored three goals, one in the first half and two in the second. Rachel Ellis, Blaine Chapman and Katie Lemasters, who had two assists, each scored goals.

Jennifer Bjelic also had an assist. The Tigers (8-3-1, 4-2 AAC Blue) had 26 shots on goal and the Vikings had 10.

Rebecca Humberger, goalie, had seven saves for Newton Falls. Kelsie Daniel had 11 saves for LaBrae.

Poland 4, Hubbard 0

POLAND — Samatha Robertson scored two goals and Tatum Marucci and Vivien Clayton each added one for Poland (7-5).

Robertson and Becky Hanna each had an assist, while Poland outshot the Eagles 11-2.

Stephanie Ciccone had two saves for the Bulldogs, while Mariah Gordon one for the Eagles (6-5-1). JVs: Poland 7-0.

Warren JFK 6, Edgewood 1

WARREN — Erin McBride scored three goals, while Kelli Guarnier added two and Gina Gelsomino one for the Eagles (7-5).

Jerrica Cooper had three assists and Alyssa Dibenedetto had two.

Adrian Ashdown scored the goal for Edgewood, while teammate Robin Hignite, goalie had 19 saves.

Kelsey Case had six saves for JFK.

Boys

COLUMBIANA — Nate Morris scored three goals all in the second half as Crestview overcame a 2-1 first half deficit to defeat United, 5-2.

Greg Bing and Zack Moore also added goals for the Rebels (7-5-3).

Bing and Moore also had assists along with Justin Kleinknecht and Jake Mellinger.

Calvin Lockard had both goals for United, while Joe Karzamin added an assist.
