Casino supporters promote ballot Issue 6

YOUNGSTOWN — Bringing a resort casino to Ohio would generate 5,000 jobs with an average salary of $34,000, according to supporters of a ballot issue to allow operation of a gambling casino in Ohio.

Members of My Ohio Now were in Youngstown on Monday to promote Issue 6, Ohio’s Resort Casino, which will be on the November ballot.

Voting yes on Issue 6 in November means that the voter approves amending the Ohio Constitution to permit one casino in Southwest Ohio.

The $600 million casino would be built on 95 acres in Clinton County, between Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, said Dr. Bradford Pressman of My Ohio Now.

The resort would include a 1,500-deluxe-room hotel, Vegas-style gambling, restaurants and a golf course, among others.

With no such resort in Ohio, Pressman said he believes that all Ohioans and the economy could benefit from such a business being in the state.

The casino would pay a tax of up to 30 percent on its gross receipts. Those taxes are to be used for various expenses, and of remaining amounts, 10 percent will be distributed to Clinton County and the other 90 percent will be divvied up among the other counties.
