‘I’m not going back to jail,’ suspect says

YOUNGSTOWN — A 47-year-old Clearmont Avenue man on probation in an aggravated robbery case was arrested Monday after being spotted inside a garage on Shawnee Trail with what police described at criminal tools. William T. Jones dropped a box he was holding and tried to run from the West Side home when he saw an officer, reports show. During a struggle with the officer, Jones said “I’m not going back to jail.” The box contained wire cutters, screwdrivers, flashlight, gloves and a crack pipe, police said. He was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones was arraigned today in municipal court and bond was set at $250,000. He will be back in court Oct. 7. Mahoning County Common Pleas Court records show Jones reached a plea agreement in an aggravated robbery case in January 2006. He pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. In exchange for his plea, charges of aggravated robbery and a firearm specification were dismissed. He was sentenced in February 2006 to one year in prison, minus 272 days served locally prior to resolution of his case. Once out of prison, he was ordered to serve three years’ post release control.
