Turnpike work to force closure of bikeway
CANFIELD — The section of the Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway between Kirk and Herbert roads will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Construction work on the Ohio Turnpike overpass necessitates the closure. That portion of the bikeway will reopen Friday.
Writing workshops
YOUNGSTOWN — Warriors Inc. is hosting seven weeks of journalism and creative writing workshops from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays starting this week at the HOPE Building, 2733 Market St., Youngstown.
The classes will be taught by a community volunteer who has a journalism degree from Youngstown State University. Classes will focus on the basic writing methods of journalism, poetry and fiction writing.
Workshops are free, and the instructor hopes to provide participants the opportunity to have their work published in local community newspapers and publications.
Four weeks will be dedicated to journalism and three weeks to creative writing.

Medical probate event
GIRARD — Pete Early, author of a book on the American mental health system that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, will be the featured speaker at the legal and medical probate seminar sponsored by Trumbull County Probate Judge Thomas A. Swift from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the MetroPlex Hotel and Conference Center, 1620 Motor Inn Drive.
Early is author of the nonfiction book “Crazy,” which is about the mental health system and Early’s yearlong investigation into the Miami-Dade County Jail.
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Robert C. Cupp will also speak.
