Liberty trash transition set to begin Oct. 6

Allied Waste was the only company to submit a bid.

LIBERTY — The township will soon be going over to one trash hauler from the three that currently operate here, and township officials want everyone to remember the rules and guidelines.

Trustees voted unanimously in July to accept a proposal from Allied Waste of Youngstown to serve as the township’s exclusive trash collection company.

The township advertised for bids for trash pickup over several weeks, and Allied Waste was the only company to submit a bid. Allied Waste will provide the service for a monthly charge of $15.43 per resident for weekly trash collection. The company will collect recyclable items for free.

According to information recently put out by township Administrator Patrick Ungaro, the official date that Allied Waste will begin as the sole collector will be Oct. 6.

Township officials are encouraging any non-Allied Waste customers to contact their current company and cancel their current contract. If applicable, they suggest asking for a refund for any unused time on the contract.

According to Ungaro, a 32-gallon recycle container will be distributed to each home before the program begins with instructions as to what is and is not recyclable taped to the side.

Those wishing to pay for trash collection by the bag can purchase a roll of 10 bags at the Township Administration Building for $20.

There is no leaf program this year, Ungaro said. Those in the unlimited collection program can place lawn refuse bags out on their normal trash collection day, and those items will be taken.

Those paying by the bag can switch to the unlimited program for a period and then return to the per-bag program.

There is a special program for residents 62 and older. Those interested should call Allied Waste. Anyone in need of a 96-gallon cart for trash and willing to pay the additional monthly charge of $2.50 should also call Allied Waste at (330) 793-7676.
