False fire alarm leads to real arrest

YOUNGSTOWN — A 17-year-old East High School boy seen on school surveillance video activating a fire alarm has been charged with inducing panic.

Police and administration began to evacuate the school building Sept. 26 until the alarm’s origin in a stairwell area was found and officials determined no fire or smoke was present.

The fire department was told to disregard the alarm. A school administrator identified the student on the video and he was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.
