Diabetes walk set

CANFIELD — Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes will start at 9 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

The event will feature more than 500 area residents and raise money to support the American Diabetes Association.

Check-in for participants begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Those participating can choose a one-mile course or can do a 3.5-mile walk through the town of Canfield.

Bob Evans of Canfield will serve a complimentary light breakfast during the registration time, and after the walk, Pizza Joe’s will provide food for participants.

Fund-raising walkathon

VIENNA —Teen Straight Talk will have a fund-raising walkathon Saturday at 1393 Youngstown-Kingsville Road. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9 a.m. Walkers and sponsors are needed. Sponsor sheets are available from Teen Straight Talk by calling (330) 539-6040.

All proceeds from the walkathon will go toward teaching youths how to avoid all high-risk behaviors. Make all donations payable to Teen Straight Talk.

Life chain scheduled

WARREN — Hundreds of anti-abortion advocates are expected to line Elm Road again this year for the 18th annual Life Chain from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 5.

The life chain will extend from Warren Plaza to Warren G. Harding High School for 60 minutes of silent prayer and protest.

Pastors from the area will lead their congregations to stand along the route. More than 900 chains will be formed nationwide and in Canada.

‘Red kettle’ volunteers

NEWTON FALLS — The Salvation Army, Newton Falls service unit, is seeking volunteers to ring the “red kettle” bells for the 2008 campaign. All of the money collected in Newton Falls stays in the 44444 ZIP code. Ring times are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Four people a day can cover one location, as volunteers are asked to do two-hour shifts.
