Boardman wins Clipper; Hamilton sets record


COLUMBIANA — With three of its runners in the top five places, the Boardman High boys cross country team took first place with 34 points at the 10th Clipper Invitational Saturday at the Ward Sports Complex.

Mooney was second with 68.

Sam Deskin (17:13) of the Spartans won the race and teammates Eddie Adu-Poku (17:48) and Joe Stazak (17:53) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Joey Schlueter (17:46) of West Branch and Jared Sevek (17:47) of Southeast were second and third.

Samantha Hamilton of Jackson-Milton set a course record (19:53) as she won the 5000-meter run. Berkshire took the girls title with 60 points and Boardman was a second with 65.

Alex Bauers (20:42) of Berkshire, Stephanie Case (20:58) of Columbiana, Katie Heney (21:09) of Boardman, Mikayla Hamilton (21:18) of Jefferson and Christina Oles (21:21) of Mooney were behind Hamilton.
