Cervi joins Celtic

GLASGOW, Scotland — Dominic Cervi will become the fourth American in the Scottish Premier soccer League after agreeing to join Celtic.

The 22-year-old University of Tulsa player had been without a team after spurning interest from Major League Soccer’s the Chicago Fire. Cervi will not be playing with the first team for now.

Cervi’s parents are Italian, meaning he should be able to play in Europe without needing a work permit.

The other Americans in the league are all midfielders — Maurice Edu and DaMarcus Beasley at Rangers and Michael Videira at Hamilton.

Cycling news

VARESE, Italy — Cycling’s international governing body Friday lifted its suspension of the French federation following an agreement with Tour de France organizers over control of the sport.

The UCI also said it would end disciplinary measures against three other leading French officials after Thursday’s agreement with the group that owns the Tour.

The dispute between the UCI and Tour organizers turned so bitter that the race owners excluded the governing body from cycling’s showcase event this year. The UCI said the French federation took sides in the issue and imposed sanctions.
