BELOIT — The West Branch Board of Education has hired Daniel Telzrow as the district’s new treasurer effective Jan. 1.

Telzrow, currently treasurer in the East Liverpool City School District, will replace Karen Elsner, who is stepping down after serving West Branch in that post for 19 years.

The board voted Thursday to give Telzrow a 2 1‚Ñ2-year contract with an annual salary of $70,000.

The selection was made after an extensive search over the past several months, conducted with the assistance of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.

Telzrow is a certified public accountant, has extensive experience in the business world, and has worked as a school district treasurer since 1994, said Scott Weingart, West Branch superintendent.

“Throughout the interview process, we were impressed with his knowledge, preparation and references who commented on his exceptional work ethic,” Weingart said.

The school board and he appreciate “the outstanding job” Elsner has done for the district, he said.

Telzrow worked for a number of years in various financial management capacities for Babcock & Wilcox, which designs, engineers, manufactures and services boilers and other power generation equipment, and began his career in the public schools as assistant treasurer in the Hudson Local School District in 1993.

He worked as treasurer in the Fairview Park City School District from 1994 to 1999. Treasurers’ positions in Revere, Mogadore and Brunswick followed. In 2004, he was hired as treasurer in the East Liverpool City School District.

Telzrow has a bachelor of science in business administration and accounting from John Carroll University and a master’s degree in business administration and finance from Kent State University.

In addition to being a CPA, he is a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, past president of the Five County Treasurer’s Association, OASBO Chapter, a member of the Auditor of State Advisory Committee and a registered school business fiscal officer.
