BOARDMAN — A Bessemer, Pa., man faces multiple charges after a police officer found him in the back of a car early Friday.
Buckshaw Earl Montgomery, 20, is charged with attempted theft from an auto, receiving stolen property, criminal damaging and possession of criminal tools.
A police officer saw a suspicious man in the back seat of a car parked in the south parking lot along Salty Groggs, Boardman-Poland Road.
The officer approached and turned on the cruiser’s spotlight, directing it at the car.
He could see a man lying in the car, peeking out the rear window and trying to hide, a police report said.
The man, later identified as Montgomery, told the officer that he was sleeping.
The police officer saw that the back cushion of car’s rear seat was pulled down and the cardboard divider was torn away.
He asked if it was Montgomery’s car and Montgomery told him the car belongs to a friend of his named Chris.
The registration, however, returned to a man with a different name.
The officer also noticed that the car’s door lock had been damaged by what appeared to be a screwdriver.
Police ordered Montgomery out of the car and while patting him down for weapons, found tools in his pants pockets and a screwdriver on the car’s front seat.
Police found the car’s owner inside the bar who told them that he doesn’t know Montgomery and that the tools, except the screwdriver, were his.
