DETROIT — Tampa Bay’s AL East title celebration was delayed by Detroit. Scott Kazmir allowed four homers, two to Ramon Santiago, and the Rays lost. Kazmir (12-8) allowed four runs and six hits in five innings, struck out eight and walked two. Ben Zobrist homered twice and had four RBIs for the Rays, headed to their first playoff appearance. Rookie Armando Galarraga (13-6) allowed five runs and six hits in 72‚Ñ3 innings, and Fernando Rodney finished for his 11th save.

Blue Jays 8, Yankees 2

TORONTO — Roy Halladay pitched his major league-leading ninth complete game to become the American League’s second 20-game winner. Vernon Wells homered and drove in four runs as Toronto snapped the Yankees’ seven-game winning streak. Halladay (20-11) improved to 5-1 in six starts against the Yankees this season and posted his second career 20-win season. The right-hander went 22-7 with nine complete games in 2003, when he won the AL Cy Young award. Halladay, who joined Cleveland’s Cliff Lee as a 20-game winner, gave up two runs and six hits.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cardinals 12, Diamondbacks 3

ST. LOUIS — The Los Angeles Dodgers won the NL West when Arizona completed its late-season fade. Arizona (79-80) led the division by 41‚Ñ2 games before play on Aug. 29, then lost 11 of 14 as the Dodgers took control of the division. The Diamondbacks won seven of eight to regain some faint hope before dropping their final three games in a four-game series against the Cardinals. Albert Pujols had a three-run homer and four RBIs to back Joel Pineiro (7-7), who allowed three runs and three hits over seven innings.

Astros 8, Reds 6

HOUSTON — Roy Oswalt beat the Cincinnati Reds again to keep Houston’s playoff hopes alive for at least one more day. The Astros ace allowed two hits and struck out three in six innings to lead Houston.

Mets 7, Cubs 6

NEW YORK — Carlos Beltran singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning and the Mets rallied for a huge win that halted their late-season slide. After trailing by three runs in the seventh, New York fought back in the rain to move within one game of NL East-leading Philadelphia with three to play. The Mets began the night tied with Milwaukee atop the wild-card standings.

WASHINGTON — The Florida Marlins’ game at the Washington Nationals was called off because of rain Thursday night and will not be made up.
