Police nab teen who robbed 89-year-old woman

BOARDMAN — Township police and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force arrested a Youngstown man on a warrant accusing him of robbing an 89-year-old woman of her purse.

Timothy Riley, 18, of East Florida Avenue, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a home on Hammaker Street.

Police had issued a warrant accusing Riley of the Sept. 14 robbery of the woman. Riley was taken to the Mahoning County Jail.

The victim told police she arrived at the Shell Station, Market Street, Sept. 14 and got out of her car when a man grabbed her purse from her arm. She and the thief pulled the purse back and forth between them when the strap broke and he ran, with the purse, across Indianola and south behind a video store.

Two people ran after him but lost sight of the robber. Police found the purse and the victim discovered $25, a credit card and personal papers were missing.
