4:30 p.m. today is deadline for storm-related aid to food stamp recipients

YOUNGSTOWN — Today at 4:30 p.m. is the application deadline for storm-related emergency food stamp assistance at the Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services, 345 Oak Hill Ave.

Food-stamp customers whose food spoiled in their refrigerators and freezers due to an electric power outage lasting at least four hours following the high winds from Hurricane Ike on Sept. 14 will receive food stamps to replace their lost food.

Applicants should bring their photo identifications.

Through the close of business Wednesday, Mahoning County JFS has provided this emergency assistance to 2,550 food stamp customers without any overtime worked by JFS staff, said Judee Genetin, acting JFS director. “We’re pretty packed again today,” with applicants, she told the county commissioners this morning.
