Poland top qualifier; Range’s Witmer medalist
HUBBARD — Ariel Witmer of South Range was medalist with 34-39—73, while Poland High’s Allison Mitzel was runner-up with 78 during the Div. II girls’ sectional golf tournament at Pine Lakes Golf Course.
Witmer, a senior, was the top individual qualifier on a non-qualifying team, while Mitzel was a member of the Bulldogs’ squad that had the best team score of 346.
Cardinal Mooney placed second with 371, followed by Ursuline (396) and Hubbard (402).
Poland, Mooney, Ursuline and Hubbard, along with Witmer, Jefferson Area’s Michelle Ford, Leetonia’s Stephanie Baker and Warren JFK’s Emily Fuller, will advance to the district tournament at Tam-O-Shanter in Canton, Oct. 1.
Ford carded 80, Baker 89 and Fuller 91.
Failing to advance as teams were: Warren JFK (405), Southeast (416), Jefferson Area (418), Champion (431), Struthers (442), Lakeview (450), Jackson-Milton (469), Salem (484), Pymatuning Valley (523) and Lowellville (597).
