Heinemann’s 2 goals power Howland win


Canfield and Lakeview posted shutouts.

HOWLAND — Scott Heinemann scored two goals Tuesday to lead the Howland High boys soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Poland.

Eric Albani and Connor Gilmour also scored. Heinemann had two assists while Ben Weisman and Anthony Russo had one each for the Tigers (6-1-4).

Poland (7-3) goalkeeper Cooper Kostelic made seven saves while Howland’s Dan Miller had five stops.

JV: Howland 4-0.

Canfield 1, Niles 0

NILES — Jared Turocy scored on an assist by Pat Connors. Canfield goalkeeper Mike Thomas made six stops as the Cardinals (5-1-4, 2-0-1 All-American Conference Red) posted their fifth shutout. Niles goalkeeper Ryan Gregory made nine saves.

JV: Canfield 3-1.

Lakeview 7, Hubbard 0

CORTLAND — Lakeview scored four goals in the first half. Joel Davis had three tallies while Joey Wilson, Jeremy Shaw, Matt Voytek and Eli Brantingham tallied one apiece for the Bulldogs (6-4-1, 3-0-0 All-American Conference White).

Davis, Brantingham, Voytek, Shaw, Pete Bielecki, Dan Ellis and Alex Mostoller had assists.

Mike Pasternak and Alex Rosowicz registered two stops apiece for Lakeview.

The Eagles are 1-8-2, 0-2-1.

JV: Lakeview, 3-0.

Liberty 3, Newton Falls 2

NEWTON FALLS — Matt Tharp, Tom Stark and Alex Brown scored for the Leopards (7-2). Stark and Pat McGarry earned assists while goalkeeper Josh Hideg made four saves.

George Ondracek scored one of the Tigers’ goals on an assist from Joey Nickell.

Massillon Jackson 4, Boardman 0

BOARDMAN — Derek Zuniga, Jimmy Costin, Greg Marchand and Evan McCreary each scored a goal for the Polar Bears (8-2, 5-0 Federal League). Boardman (4-5-1, 2-2-1) goalkeeper Garrett Pancake made eight saves.

JV: Jackson 4-0.

Heartland Christian 8, Massillon Christian 3

MASSILLON — Kyle Knepper had seven goals and Justin Storm had one for Heartland.

Treg Lunger made two assists. Storm and Justin Waldern had an assist apiece and Nate Hall made a school-record 44 stops for Heartland (6-2).

Logan McCallin scored Massillon Christian’s points.

West Branch 3, Carrollton 0

BELOIT — Aaron Lamancusa and Caleb Capron had two goals apiece and Josh Latham had two assists for West Branch.

West Branch’s Chance Young and Carrollton’s Conrad Burnes had four saves apiece.

Jefferson 4, Badger 3

KINSMAN — Stephanie Cole and Liz Hubler scored two goals for the Falcons. Goalkeeper Emily Fuller made 13 saves.

For the Braves (5-5-1), Tayor Phillips, Shawna McNeely, and Adrianna Braho scored and Phillips, Braho and Sarah Smith earned assists. Kelsey Flowers made seven stops.
