Daley keys Ursuline to sectional golf win
Mooney, Salem and Lakeview placed 2-3-4 to join the Irish in the district tourney.
VIENNA — Ursuline High carded a team score of 304 to win the Division II boys sectional golf tournament at Candywood Golf Club Monday.
Ursuline was led by junior James Daley, who scored even par 72 on the 6,131-yard course to earn medalist.
Seniors Michael Forte and Angelo Maxim shot 77s, and senior Ryan Alders scored 78.
Cardinal Mooney placed second with 314, while Salem (329) and Lakeview (336) finished third and fourth, respectively, to earn berths in the district tournament next week at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Kent.
Mooney was led by junior Chris Daprile’s 75, while senior George Kubas shot 77, freshman Joe Pikunas 78 and senior Max Pikunas 84,
Senior Austin Mitchley and freshman Bart Wyss shot 78s for Salem, while seniors Brandon Simmons and Tim Eddinger had an 83 and a 90, respectively.
For Lakeview, senior Zacj Hordan and junior Logan Massacci carded 78s, while junior Anthony Derr shot 87 and senior Robert Franks 93.
Four individuals not on qualifying teams also advanced to the district tournament. There were freshman Thomas Lydic of Champion (76), senior Josh Dunch of Hubbard (76), sophomore Jason Ramus of United (78) and senior Adam Peace of Newton Falls (79).
Other team scores were: Brookfield 373, Champion 339, Garrettsville 412, Girard 373, Hubbard 343, LaBrae 390, Liberty 378, Campbell 359, Newton Falls 350, Southeast 355, South Range 345, Struthers 402, United 390 and West Branch 349.
