3 county cross country meets, girls Div. II sectional golf today

The girls Division II sectional golf tournament will be held today at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard.

Schools entered are Cardinal Mooney, Champion, Crestview, Hubbard, Jackson-Milton, Jefferson Area, Lakeview, Leetonia, Lowellville, Maplewood, Poland, Pymatuning Valley, Salem, Southeast, Southington, South Range, Struthers, Ursuline, Warren JFK.

The boys Division III sectional tournament is Wednesday at Riverview Golf Course in Newton Falls at 8:30 a.m.

Badger, Bristol, East Palestine, Leetonia, Lisbon, Lordstown, Lowellville, Maplewood, Mathews, McDonald, Pymatuning, Southern, Southington, Springfield, Ashtabula Sts. John & Paul and Warren JFK are entered.

Cross country

CANFIELD — The Mahoning County cross country championships are scheduled at the Canfield Fairgrounds today at 4:30 p.m.

Some of the area’s top distance runners entered are Sam Deskin and Lauren Agnew of Boardman, Sean Murphy of Poland, Christine Oles of Mooney, Monica Ciarniello of Lowellville and Samantha Hamilton of Jackson-Milton, Anna Popeo and Alexis Begezda of Poland and Nicole Tiberio of Canfield.

The Trumbull County championships are also today at 4:30 p.m., hosted by Brookfield.

Aaron Sutton of Howland, Tyler Ames, Heath Harris and Sam Jenkins of Lakeview, Jerry Dugan of McDonald are in a strong field of boys runners, while Lisa Yoder and Krystal Williams of Maplewood and Callie Garland of McDonald will contend in the girls race.

The Columbiana County meet will be held at East Palestine City Park today, with the high school boys race beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The defending team champion in the boys race is East Liverpool, while Salem’s Ted Yuhaniak returns to defend his individual title. Expected to challenge are David Chick of East Palestine, Nathan Grimm of Leetonia, Anthony Lee of Lisbon, Jared Sevek of Southern and Brandon Lucas of East Liverpool.

Salem is the defending girls champion and East Palestine’s Leighann Kelvington returns to defend her individual title. Stephanie Case and Alyssa Mellott of Columbiana, Lisa Zimmermann of East Liverpool, and Lauren and Lexi Shivers of Salem will contend.
