Growth anticipated by Kiwanis Club

CANFIELD — Barbara Smith, president-elect of Kiwanis Club of Western Mahoning County, attended the Ohio Kiwanis Growth Summit in Fairlawn, where the emphasis was on membership growth and the organizing of new clubs. The sessions were conducted by Don Canady, international president designate, who will begin his term as president Oct. 1.

Smith, whose goal is to establish a new club in the New Middletown/Springfield area, was elected president of Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation and will begin her term of office Oct. 1.

The Western Mahoning County Kiwanis Club sponsored a cow patty bingo picnic Sept. 21 at Bruss Farm in North Jackson as a fundraiser for scholarships. Each year the organization gives a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving student at Canfield and at Jackson Milton high schools, and at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. It also sponsors a Key Club at each of the schools.

Meetings of the county club take place at 6 p.m. each Wednesday at A La Cart in Canfield. Prospective members are welcome. For more information contact Smith, (330) 502-1460.
