Dog thwarts trespasser in Warren

VINDICATOR STAFF report

WARREN — A Northfield Avenue Northwest Warren woman can apparently thank her German Shepherd for thwarting a break-in at her home at about 2:20 a.m. today.

The woman told police she heard a bang coming from her backyard. When she looked out, she saw the figure of a person in the yard.

Then she saw her male German Shepherd protecting her home by attacking the intruder.

The woman said she saw the intruder striking the dog to get free, so she called off the dog. The dog let the person go, and the person fled on foot.

Police observed the garage door open about a foot, and the victim’s son said he heard his bedroom window open and slam shut right before the suspect was confronted by the dog, but there was no indication that the intruder made it inside the home or garage.
