Monday's Best Bets on TV

“Dancing With the Stars” (8 p.m., ABC): “Dancing With the Stars” returns with a cast of happy hoofers that features a little bit of everything, from sports stars (Misty May-Treanor and Warren Sapp) and soap stars (Susan Lucci) to boy-band guys (Lance Bass) and senior citizens (Cloris Leachman).

“Super City: New York” (9 p.m., History): Contrary to popular belief, Manhattan didn’t start out paved and subdivided into blocks. In 1609, an English explorer working for a Dutch trading company discovered one of the best natural harbors in the world; rush-hour traffic on the island in the middle of that harbor wasn’t an issue. This and more awaits you on “Super City: New York,” a two-hour journey back through time and space that explores how New York has been transformed by both nature and humans since dinosaurs roamed Broadway. Much more recently, skyscrapers rose, tunnels as deep as 600 feet were dug and landfill expanded Manhattan’s shoreline. What will the future hold? The special explores that, too.

“Heroes” (9 p.m., NBC): Are we ready to resume the “Heroes” worship? After an extraordinarily long layoff, the sci-fi thriller returns hoping to reclaim its status as can’t-miss television. The two-hour premiere follows an hour-long clip show.

“Worst Week” (9:30 p.m., CBS): The zany new sitcom, “Worst Week,” introduces us to disaster-prone Sam Briggs (Kyle Bornheimer), who wants to impress his girlfriend’s parents in the worst way, but just keeps screwing up. It follows the season debuts of “The Big Bang Theory,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “Two and a Half Men.”

“CSI: Miami” (10 p.m., CBS): Last spring’s cliffhanger gets resolved, for better or worse.
