WEATHERSFIELD — A trailer full of tuna burned early Saturday as a truck caught fire on an exit ramp for Interstate 80.

The driver was stopping near Salt Springs Road just after midnight when the brakes caught fire and ignited the trailer, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. Half of the trailer melted before area firefighters extinguished the blaze. The cab was not damaged, and the driver was not harmed, the patrol said. The truck is owned by Sergey Bombeshko of Minnesota.

Food drive planned in Cortland

CORTLAND — Integrative Medical Centers of Ohio is sponsoring a food drive Oct. 1-17 for Cortland Area Cares, a nonprofit food pantry that serves the Lakeview School District. Canned foods and other nonperishable goods can be dropped off at the offices of Integrative Medical Centers at 148 W. Main St. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

Mill Creek MetroParks to offer program on owls

CANFIELD — Jeff Harvey from Wild Birds Unlimited will present a free program about owls of Ohio and their habits at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on state Route 46 here. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.

High school open house

AUSTINTOWN — Austintown Fitch High School, 4560 Falcon Drive, will have an open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Recycling drive set to help burn victim

WARREN — An aluminum can recycle drive will be at Sorrento’s Restaurant, 2488 Parkman Road N.W., from 8:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 to benefit burn victim Douglas Coward, 18, of Newton Falls. Cat food cans must be in separate bags, and removed pop tabs will be donated to the National Kidney Foundation. Monetary donations will be accepted, and a raffle for an Easy Pull Aluminum Can Recycling System will taken place during the event.

Volunteers sought for annual Turkey Trot

CHAMPION — Warren Kiwanis Club is looking for additional volunteers to help with its annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day at Kent State University Trumbull Campus. The race offers a 2-mile race/walk and a 5-mile race. It will be Nov. 27. Registration and other activities start at 7 a.m. with the sale of beverages and race paraphernalia throughout the morning and cleanup starting at noon. The race attracted 1,500 runners last year.
