big ten roundup \ Saturday’s other games

Ball St. 42, Indiana 20

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — MiQuale Lewis ran for 166 yards and four touchdowns, helping Ball State overcame the loss of receiver Dante Love. Canfield High graduate Sean Baker added a 40-yard interception return for a TD, one week after picking off three passes and returning a fumble for a TD in a win over Akron. It was the first time the Cardinals (4-0) beat a BCS-conference school. The victory also ended Indiana’s 20-game winning streak against Mid-American Conference foes, which dated to a Sept. 24, 1977 loss against Miami of Ohio when Lee Corso was coaching the Hoosiers. Indiana was led by Kellen Lewis, who ran for 148 yards and one TD and threw for 159 yards but was picked off twice. Ball State’s Nate Davis was 16-of-25 for 239 yards and threw one TD pass.

Pittsburgh 21, Iowa 20

PITTSBURGH — LeSean McCoy ran 27 yards for a go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter despite being outrushed by Iowa’s Shonn Greene in a matchup of top running backs, and Pittsburgh rallied after losing a double-digit lead. McCoy, who set a Big East freshman rushing record last season but still doesn’t have a 100-yard game this season, also had a 28-yard catch on the 80-yard drive that gave Pitt a 21-17 lead. The Panthers (2-1) led 14-3 in the second quarter, only to have Greene lead two touchdown drives that put Iowa (3-1) up 17-14. Greene’s 6-yard scoring run made it 14-10. Later, Greene carried three times for 27 yards after a pass interference call on Aaron Berry gave Iowa a first down at the Panthers’ 28, leading to quarterback Jake Christensen’s 2-yard TD run and Iowa’s only lead of the game, with 51‚Ñ2 minutes remaining in the third.

Northwestern 16, Ohio 8

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern got off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1962 by blocking two field goals, recovering two fumbles and holding pesky Ohio to four yards rushing. The Wildcats survived an offensive drought in the second half and four interceptions by C.J. Bacher, as well as an injury to starting tailback Tyrell Sutton.

Purdue 32, Central Michigan 25

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Kory Sheets broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown run with a minute left in the game to lift Purdue. Central Michigan (2-2) appeared set to pull off an upset after taking a 25-24 lead with 1:18 to go on a 6-yard touchdown pass by Dan LeFevour followed by a 2-point conversion pass to Antonio Brown. But the Boilermakers (2-1) got a 39-yard kickoff return from Desmond Tardy and the Chippewas were hit with a 15-yard facemask penalty. On first down, Sheets took a handoff from Curtis Painter, made a cut that faked out several defenders and raced into the end zone. Painter followed with a 2-point conversion pass to Greg Orton.

Minnesota 37, Florida Atlantic 3

MINNEAPOLIS — Four interceptions by the vastly improved Minnesota defense, including a 50-yard return for a touchdown by Simoni Lawrence, helped the Gophers top Florida Atlantic and take an unbeaten record into the Big Ten season.
