Assault suspects sought

WILMINGTON, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police at Mercer are looking for two men who assaulted a man and a woman.

Police said the assailants were wearing black masks when they entered the home on Mercer-New Wilmington Road around 2:20 p.m. Friday.

They assaulted the male victim with a baseball bat and tied him up using duct tape and wire ties. The female victim entered the room and was restrained in the same manner.

The suspects took $525 and a cell phone from the victims before fleeing south on state Route 158 in a black Chevrolet Cavalier with no registration plate, police said.

The male victim was taken to Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, where he was treated for a head wound.

Large hay fire

HANOVERTON — A number of area fire departments battled a large hay fire along state Route 644 early Friday.

An official said the fire departments were trying to find other fire departments to relieve them. The cause of the blaze wasn’t known late Friday. The volunteer fire department could not be reached.
