JACKSON-MILTON \ Agenda

The board of education took this action at its meeting Thursday night:

Discussed a five-year, 5.5-mill renewal levy on the Nov. 4 general election ballot. The measure will bring to the district about $985,000 annually for operating expenses and will not mean new taxes for residents, Treasurer John Zinger stressed. If the levy fails, a new emergency levy at a higher millage will likely have to be placed on the ballot, Superintendent Kirk Baker noted.

Also meeting were several volunteers with the Jackson-Milton Levy Committee, who were discussing ways to educate people about the measure. In the works are plans to mail information to residents and others; the levy committee also will hold a community forum, set for 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Jackson-Milton High School, 10748 Mahoning Ave. The committee, with 40 to 50 volunteers, is battling what it says is a lot of misinformation and lies being circulated about the levy. Committee volunteer Mitch Mascioli, a former school board member, said it’s important to get the correct information to people so they can cast an educated vote.
