Cross Country Notes & Times

Canton race: Fitch High School’s Josh McHenry and Shannon Rech should be among the top contenders in boys and girls Division I runs at the 39th Malone Invitational Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The 13-race schedule starts at 8:20 a.m. and concludes with a boys junior high run at 2:15 p.m.

Trumbull: Bristol, Brookfield, Jackson-Milton, LaBrae, Lordstown, Lowellville, Mineral Ridge, South Range, Warren JFK and Western Reserve will compete in the Lordstown Cross Country Invitational at the Lordstown Village Park with the girls varsity race set for 10 a.m., boys varsity at 10:45 and girls and boys junior varsity runs at 11:15 and 11:45. Lowellville High’s junior Monica Ciarniello, one of the feature runners in the girls race, won her last two outings at the Spartan Invitational at Boardman and the Suburban League championships at the Canfield Fairgrounds, but she will be challenged by Samantha Hamilton of Jackson-Milton.

Niles competition: Schools entered in the 14th Niles Cross Country Challenge (boys and girls) Saturday at 10 a.m. are Ashtabula Lakeside, Conneaut, Girard, Howland, Jefferson, Niles, Poland, Pymatuning Valley and Ravenna.
