NFL roundup \ News and notes

Seahawks: Koren Robinson’s return to the Seahawks will begin immediately as both a wide receiver and a kick returner. Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said Wednesday the team’s former No. 1 draft choice, reacquired on Tuesday, will play Sunday against St. Louis, perhaps in both roles. Robinson hasn’t played since January’s NFC championship game for the Green Bay Packers. He was out of football at home in North Carolina until the Seahawks gave him a one-year contract to help offset injuries to six wide receivers.

Jaguars: Veteran guard Chris Naeole, who tore his quadriceps tendon off the bone last November and was released four months later, re-signed with the Jaguars in hopes of bolstering an injury-riddled offensive line that is without three starters. The Jaguars (0-2) could use the help. After losing both starting guards in the opener at Tennessee, they played with three backups along the line against Buffalo and struggled again to get much going on offense.

Eagles: Two-time Pro Bowl RG Shawn Andrews is questionable this week with back spasms. Andrews was injured in the second half against the Cowboys. Max Jean-Gilles would get the start if Andrews can’t play. Receiver Reggie Brown (hamstring) practiced and is expected to return after missing the first two games. “We’ll take it slow with him and see how he does,” coach Andy Reid said.

Bears: Safety Brandon McGowan will undergo season-ending surgery on his left ankle. McGowan, demoted from starting strong safety to nickel back for the season opener, left last week’s 20-17 loss at Carolina. Kevin Payne replaced McGowan as the starting strong safety in the opener at Indianapolis. That also displaced Danieal Manning, who could play a big role in Sunday’s home opener against Tampa Bay.

Panthers: Left guard Travelle Wharton revealed Wednesday he has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, making it possible he’ll miss his second straight game Sunday at Minnesota. Wharton hasn’t practiced since being injured in the Sept. 7 opener at San Diego. Geoff Hangartner filled in during Carolina’s win over Chicago.

49ers: RT Jonas Jennings and CB Shawntae Spencer are expected to miss Sunday’s game after getting injured last week. Jennings, who committed three penalties in the first half in Seattle, has a shoulder injury, while Spencer has a knee problem.

Buccaneers: Tight end Jerramy Stevens was activated after missing the first two games of the season while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Stevens, who also was fined an additional game check by the NFL, signed with the Bucs in April 2007 after being released by the Seahawks following his arrest in Scottsdale, Ariz., for investigation of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.
