Calzaghe eyes Jones

NEW YORK — Joe Calzaghe is definitely watching tapes of Roy Jones Jr.

The rapid-fire puncher from Wales can’t afford any early mistakes in his long-awaited light heavyweight fight against Jones on Nov. 8 at Madison Square Garden.

In April, Calzaghe hit the canvas just 70 seconds into the fight against Bernard Hopkins before winning by split decision.

“I didn’t watch any tapes of Hopkins, and that may have been a mistake,” Calzaghe said Tuesday at a news conference. “I underestimated him.”

Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs) relinquished his WBC super middleweight title to face Jones in a fight nearly a decade in the making.

Pistorius wins 3rd

BEIJING — Oscar Pistorius completed his gold-medal haul at the Paralympics on Tuesday, winning the 400 meters to go with sprint victories in the 100 and 200.

The South African double amputee known as “The Blade Runner” finished in 47.49 seconds, a world record for his disability class.

Jim Bob Bizzell of the United States won the silver medal at the Bird’s Nest National Stadium, the venue for Olympic track and field. Ian Jones took the bronze.

Pistorius was cleared in May to run in the Beijing Olympics by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This followed a decision by track and field’s governing body that said he was ineligible.
