Suspects found guilty in the March 24 robbery and shooting of KFC manager Joseph Kaluza

YOUNGSTOWN — Defense attorneys in the robbery and shooting of a KFC manager rested their case this morning without calling any witnesses.

Taran Helms, 23, of West Hylda Avenue; and Hattie Gilbert, 20, of East Judson Avenue; are both accused of attempted murder, robbery, felonious assault and kidnapping in the March crime that left Joseph Kaluza a paraplegic.

The trial started Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Closing arguments are expected on Thursday morning.
