STORM UPDATE | Power restored to more than half of affected customers
More than half of the customers in the Eastern Region of Ohio Edison/Penn Power service area had their power restored since Monday, said Paul Harkey, Ohio Edison/Penn Power spokesman.
Yesterday’s high was 188,000 customers without service and today that number has dropped to 52,000 without power.
Crews are working to have all trees cleared by today and all power restored by Thursday, said Harkey.
As of 10:30 a.m. today Youngstown still has 8,000 customers without power. Other areas are as follows: Salem, 9,000; Alliance, 2,000; New Castle, 7,000; Warren-Kinsman area, 8,000; and Mercer, 8,000.
The Ohio Department of Transportation opened all roads that were closed on Monday and ODOT public information officer Paula Putnam said crews are clearing remaining debris today.
There are 40 to 50 traffic lights out in ODOT District 4, which includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Twenty intersections in Mahoning are still without power, said Putnam.
