Registration begins for enrichment programs

Young men and woman are encouraged to register for the enrichment programs.

YOUNGSTOWN — The nonprofit organization Warriors Inc. is accepting registration forms for the free Warriors of Manhood and Totally You Girl programs that begin Oct. 25.

The programs will run 9 a.m. to noon every other Saturday from Oct. 25 until March 2009 at Eagle Heights Academy, the former Youngstown South High School building,1833 Market St.

Warriors of Manhood and Totally You Girl are enrichment programs focused on educating young men and woman age 9 to 25.

The male program is geared toward building the integrity and character of young men in the community, whereas the female program will offer courses geared towards building self-esteem of the total woman, said Warriors Inc. activities coordinator Sparkil Alli.

Local professionals, teachers and leaders will head up the Saturday group sessions. Program sessions will consist of a keynote speaker and group discussions. The young men and women will split up into age appropriate groups for those discussions.

“We wanted to do something really big and show that there are professionals in this area,” said Alli of creating the youth programs.

A kickoff celebration starting at 9:30 a.m. is scheduled for Oct. 11 at the Byzantine Center, 3801 Shady Run Road.
