Police arrest three after hearing a shot

STAFF REPORT

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Three people were arrested after two city officers working a Housing Authority duty heard a shot fired on Halco Street in the Grant Street projects.

Police arrested Theresa Stull, 40, of Grace Street, Grove City; Donald Brewer, 38, of Highland Avenue, New Castle; and Rosa Abraham, 21, also of Highland Avenue, around 10 p.m. Saturday, police reported.

Police said the officers heard a shot and then heard a woman yell, “Someone is shooting, and you are right here.”

The officers turned their car around and saw a man getting into a car while yelling “Go! Go! Go!” to the driver.

They pursued the car as it turned onto Green Street, then onto Grant Street, stopping it just past the Skyview Towers apartments, police reported.

After telling the three to get out of their car, officers found a holster in Brewer’s waistband, the report said.

Stull, the driver, admitted there was a gun under the front passenger’s seat, the report said.

Police found a 9 mm handgun there. When they later checked its serial number, they found it had been stolen.

Stull told police she’d agreed to give Abraham and Brewer a ride. She said she parked, they got out of the car, and she heard a shot.

She said she saw Abraham put the gun under her seat.

Police charged Abraham with carrying a firearm without a license and with receiving stolen property. Brewer, who is on parole through the state, was detained and sent to the Lawrence County Jail, police said.

Police do not indicate any charges will be filed against Stull.
