34,000 still without power in the area

As of 3 p.m. today the number of customers without power in the Ohio Edison/Penn Power Eastern Region is down to 34,000.

Youngstown still has 8,000 customers without electricity, said Paul Harkey, Ohio Edison/Penn Power spokesman. Other areas are as follows: Salem, 8,000; Alliance, 2,000; Warren-Kinsman, 9,000; New Castle, 5,000; and Mercer, 5,000.

Approximately 2500 workers are rotating on 16 hour shifts to remove remaining debris and repair down lines.

All power should be restored by the weekend, said Harkey.
