NEWTON FALLS — The Salvation Army here is looking for volunteers for its annual holiday bell-ringing to solicit donations.
The signature “red kettle” bell-ringing will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and some weekdays, in two-hour shifts. Money received by the Newton Falls locations will remain in the township and go to families in need.
To volunteer, call Doug at (330) 872-5574. Children can also volunteer under the supervision of an adult.
Fire truck for Glenmoor GLENMOOR — The Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department will receive a free, 2.5-ton all-wheel-drive cargo truck from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry. The truck is worth $45,750, according to the ODNR. The U.S. Department of Defense Fire Fighter Property Program will pay for it. The funding helps small departments that often operate on less than $35,000 a year.
Fall Into Fun event
YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks’ Fellows Riverside Gardens will host Fall Into Fun — A Family Celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 at the gardens.
Participants can celebrate the Gardens’ 50th anniversary by strolling through the garden marketplace of plants, flowers and crafts by local artisans. Autumn displays will be visible and gardening experts will be available to answer questions. Admission is free.
District seeks proposals
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown School District is looking for someone to provide case management support services for a program designed to encourage ninth- grade boys to improve their academic performance and stay in school. Proposals are being sought from agencies and/or individuals to do specific case management for 80 to 100 students participating in the Governor’s Initiative to Increase the Graduation Rate program. The job entails maintaining student profiles, collecting and maintaining data on each student’s progress, contacting parents for progress reviews and assisting in outlining strategies for intervention. Advocate volunteering
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Court Appointed Special Advocate program is seeking volunteers for its fall training class. CASA trains volunteers to represent abused and neglected children in juvenile court. The application deadline is Sept. 20. The 20-year-old program here has trained more than 200 advocates, who have spent more than 36,000 hours representing nearly 1,500 children.
