TMH Foundation plans annual golf classic

WARREN — The 10th Annual Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Classic 2008 will tee off Monday at the Trumbull Country Club. Last year’s Golf Classic raised $25,000 for the foundation, and the event sold out.

The event begins with one flight of golfers in the morning, at 8 a.m. A second group will begin playing at 1:30 p.m.

All proceeds of the golf outing will go toward the foundation, which supports community initiatives and efforts to improve the quality of health care in Trumbull County.

Fire department to sell spaghetti dinners

LAKE MILTON — Craig Beach Volunteer Fire Dept., 1797 Grandview Road, will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the fire station. The cost for adults is $7, seniors, $6, and children 12 and under, $4. Dinner includes salad, bread, a beverage and dessert.

Irish Heritage seminar to be at St. Christine’s

YOUNGSTOWN — The Irish American Archival Society will sponsor an Irish heritage seminar beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 11 at St. Christine Parish Center, 3165 Schenley Ave. The cost of the event is $15 and includes lunch and beverages. Complimentary coffee, tea, soda bread and scones will be available during registration. Reservations are required by Oct. 2.

Bob Casey will serve as master of ceremonies, and the morning session will feature Diane Van Skiver Gagel, author and professional genealogist, who will present “The Irish Diaspora: The Famine Irish in America.” The Burke School of Irish Dance will perform, and lunch of potato soup, corned beef sandwiches, brownies and cookies will be served.

In the afternoon, Sally Murphy Pallante, IAAS president, will present a power point presentation featuring Irish families in the Valley, and Ted Miller and Bill Lewis, of the County Mayo Band, will present Irish ballads and Irish-American songs, and speak on “Tin Pan Irish” and the “Reawakening of Irish Ballads in America.”

Parkman Chamber plans chili cook-off

PARKMAN — A chili cook-off will be sponsored by Parkman Chamber of Commerce from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Overlook Park, state Route 168, Parkman Township. The entry fee will be $10, and first, second and third place cash awards will be based on the number of entries.

A sampler kit will be $3, and bowls will be $1. Hot Dogs, corn bread and beverages will also be available.
