St. Dominic School reunion dinner today
YOUNGSTOWN — About 300 people are expected to attend an all-school reunion dinner dance tonight at the former St. Dominic School on Southern Boulevard.
The school closed in 1999, but those who attended the facility were invited back for the reunion that begins at 6 p.m. There will be dinner and dancing to the music of The Great Pretenders, and memorabilia from the school’s past, from the 1920s through the 1990s, will be on display.
The evening will also feature a silent auction with proceeds benefiting the Dominican Sisters.
The reunion continues with an open house at the school, now the parish center, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The school was closed after 75 years of operation. Declining enrollment and rising costs were cited as key factors in the decision. The school had nearly 1,300 pupils at its peak in 1964, but enrollment had dwindled to 150 in its final year.
