Holy Family to recognize Anna Pompeo with award

YOUNGSTOWN — Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road, will honor Anna Pompeo on Catechetical Sunday, Sept. 21, with the Pius X Award for 25 years of service as a volunteer parish catechist. The award is named for Pope Pius X, who called for the catechetical instruction of all Catholics.

Monsignor William J. Connell, pastor of Holy Family, and Janet S. Crespi, director of religious education, nominated Pompeo for the award. They noted that Pompeo has echoed her Catholic faith to children in the fifth grade for nine years and in the third grade for 16 years, and is an exemplary witness of the Catholic faith not only to the children she teaches, but also to the other catechists.

Parishes bestow the award to thank their catechists for service, honor their gifts and talents, nurture their formation, promote their vocation, and recognize their investment of time and talent. The Diocese of Youngstown Office of Religious Education offers the award to parishes that want to recognize those catechists who have dedicated so many years to the ministry of proclaiming the Word.
