Trumbull Tech Center
The board of education of the Trumbull Career & Technical Center in Champion met Thursday evening and took these actions:
Approved a budget of $18 million for the 2009 fiscal year. Treasurer Gary Ghizzoni said the permanent appropriations are nearly the same as the previous year.
Received an update on the status of the Western Reserve Greenway, a bike path that will eventually run from Lake Erie to the Ohio River. An eastern section of TCTC property will be part of the trail, which runs to Champion Avenue. Jonathan Millea of the Trumbull Planning Commission said work on the TCTC portion of the path should be completed by spring 2010 at a cost of more than $1 million.
Accepted a donation of $15,000 for training students on industrial equipment from the Grainger Foundation. Grainger is an industrial supplier with a facility located on Victoria Road in Austintown. Branch Manager Jeff Hughes said the contribution is the first step in a partnership of Grainger and TCTC to help students prepare for careers in the trades.
Heard a report from board member Roger Samuelson on the impact of $540 million in budget cuts planned by Gov. Ted Strickland. Samuelson said that initial studies indicate that TCTC will not be affected, but the state’s financial situation will need to be constantly monitored.
